General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI come here to read news. If you are just posting a Youtube video can you at least note that in the subject line?

Editing to add - Sorry I didn't know about the red box thingy. Thank you!
But I agree with those who mentioned wanting at least a synopsis or summary/explanation or time stamp on the video that you post.
Sorry but I'm grumpy today.
But I'm also tired of opening threads and seeing a video. I can't always watch/listen to something and would rather read it.
Thank you

(10,558 posts)I do appreciate folks who post a summary of what video is about.

(203 posts)I enjoy it when there's a timestamp to the good part.

(4,837 posts)Have a red dot next to them X posts have blue.
I also hate youtube videos with no written info or comment!
A waste of my time.

(918 posts)I much prefer reading.
I have also found that the titles are often misleading so what you watch has little relevance to the title.

(15,564 posts)I avoid the red dots on threads because I am also not into watching videos on everything. I can read faster than the 20 minutes of ranting ...

(6,779 posts)I am less and less inclined to open posts with the red square because too many people don't post a clue about contents when they just post a video.

(171 posts)Mostly I see videos and twitter links, which I decline to participate in. Many of the videos are just talking heads I never heard of telling me what I am watching.
I have almost left DU a few times because of this. Life is too short.
I will look for the red dots and move on.
Thanks for the tip.

(12,691 posts)What is being said and most importantly, with long videos, give us the time stamp of when to watch, instead of us having to watch most of the video to get to the spot.

(1,483 posts)Nobody can please everyone. But just like there is no stupid question, something one person does not like is just peachy for someone else. Chill y'all we have bigger fish to fry.

(14,557 posts)Especially those that have CAPITALS and !!!!! in the headline, with an inflammatory headline line Trump (or Russia or MAGA etc) completely destroyed!!
Those are guaranteed to be a 10 minute of video with some random person and then 20 seconds of relevant info that is no where near what the headline claimed.
I really wish there was a way to eliminate these from personal feeds. Ive blocked Liberal YouTubers and the poster who throws up dozens of those each day, but they are still present.

(21,634 posts)I too come here for news and also the insights and opinions of DU posters. Most of the videos are posted and that is it - just one person's take on a news story, and then it dies. I think we can scan YouTube for those, but this is the only place for a discussion after reading the news someone has posted. We are the commentary and I enjoy that.

(39,721 posts)News and opinion videos simply do not exist in my personal universe -- not on my computers, not on my television, not on my phones.
My daemons dispose of all links to them.

(12,136 posts)As for posts with videos, I don't mind them in the least (and in some cases they are an enhancement) if they SUPPLEMENT a full text post with a short clip (or even a long clip if the poster tells us where to look for the meat, even if the long clip is some blathering callow kid that starts off with a long long backgrounder that begins with the 2016 election and for some reason has an incentive to spend 30 minutes to cover one minute of news).
As for many of the videos that one poster obsessively posts, it makes it sound like Ukraine is massively winning every encounter. One wonders why, if that is so, why Ukraine isn't by now mopping up the last bits of crumbling Russian resistance at the southern-most tip of the Kamchatka peninsula by now. I quit watching those nearly 3 years ago.

(113,746 posts)because that is the best way to avoid dupes. That might be inconvenient at times but it's better than having half the lineup taken by the same video under different titles.

(10,378 posts)I dont want to watch a long video to find the 1-2 minute point of the OP. It needs to be included in the post.
TygrBright
(21,173 posts)It would also be helpful if they'd say WHY they think others might be interested. Needn't be elaborate, just something like, "This video interviews several people who were fired from the Federal such-and-such department and discusses their potential lawsuit. I thought others might be interested in the grounds they chose for the suit, which rely on the standing of the DOGE employees." Or whatever.
How hard is that?
hopefully,
Bright
