7 most likely successors to Trump in 2028

While President Trump says it’s too soon to back a successor for his party’s 2028 presidential nod, the jockeying and tea-leaf reading has begun in the search for the next GOP leader.

The president himself suggested Vice President Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are possible contenders.

Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., suggested this past week that he was keeping the door open to a possible run after his father leaves the White House, acknowledging “Maybe one day, you know, that calling is there.”

Some swing state governors have also made moves that stoked speculation of presidential ambitions this cycle.

Could be interesting. Republicans all trying to see who can be a bigger asshole.

He's talking about people to run for president as Republicans, assuming he hasn't turned this country into a full-blown "banana republic that can't grow bananas" by then.

Guys, we are only 120 something days into this nightmare....2028 is two lifetimes away...3,682 things can happen between now and then and there is no way to even remotely guess who will be in the "R" catbird seat then

Don Junior is the obvious choice. Dumber than his father, even less qualified.

was that too many voters couldn't tell the difference between him and his father. And this may well become the case with MAGAt voters if Donnie the Lesser decides to run.

Was often described as a 'post turtle'.
‘When you’re driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that’s a ‘post turtle’.
You know he didn’t get up there by himself, he doesn’t belong up there, he doesn’t know what to do while he is up there, and you just wonder what kind of a dumb ass put him up there in the first place.’ “

The only two that have any credibility at all (and that’s a big stretch) are Youngkin and Kemp. Junior and Noem (!) are complete idiots. Vance, Rubio, and DeSantis have destroyed themselves pandering to Trump - plus they have absolutely no charisma. What a pathetic lineup.

If DjtJr can get the backing of Bannon. Joe Rogan, and money bags Musk that would be a big plus for little Donnie jr.

The oligarch class would find Donnie jr. a good candidate because he is so lacking in knowledge. He would be perfect because the only way he would survive is if somebody led him around by the nose 24 hours a day

I don’t think whatever Trump has that appeals to these moonbats is transferable to anyone else other than junior.

He’s cruel, un empathetic, toxic, racist, dumb etc. just like his father is and has mass appeal among the maga online troll legions. And he’s a Trump. Interesting Gums wasn’t on the list too.

Rubio has 0.0 shot at the nomination.

Vance has a better shot, but might stand down if Trump told him to in order to clear a path for Junior.

He's a lightweight but he's definitely the most appealing to a general election electorate of those three.

23. You're Assuming...

…that Trump will still be a viable political figure by 2028. Personally, I think that there’s a decent chance that he will have had such a ruinous effect on people’s lives by that point that the base could turn on him and he might be impeached. Admittedly, that could be wishful thinking. The thought of living through a Trump Jr. presidency is just too awful to contemplate.

but he has no control over whom will be allowed to appear on presidential primary ballots in all 50 states,
unless he seizes political control over all those states with TANKS....

By the time that becomes an issue, I presume that his brain will be total mush,

a bad strategy for a General Election victory....

At least, I hope that will be the lesson taught by the 2026 midterm elections....

As an aside, I hope "Junior" runs! I suspect he will fail to gain the GQP presidential nomination,
and his failure to do so will be the ultimate slap-down to his father
(or the guy that everyone presumes is his father!)
