(8,787 posts)Actually, I couldn't care less about not being privy to their miserable lives. When I channel surf his mug is everywhere 24/7. I love the blue suit and red tie uniform that he never takes off comment though.

Opinion
By Elayne Griffin Baker
Theres no literature or poetry in the White House. No music. No Kennedy Center award celebrations. There are no pets in this White House. No loyal mans best friend. No Socks the family cat. No kids science fairs. No times when this president takes off his blue suit-red tie uniform and becomes human, except when he puts on his white shirt-khaki pants uniform and hides from Americans to play golf. There are no images of the first family enjoying themselves together in a moment of relaxation. No Obamas on the beach in Hawaii moments, or Bushes fishing in Kennebunkport, no Reagans on horseback, no Kennedys playing touch football on the Cape.
I was thinking the other day of the summer when George H couldnt catch a fish and all the grandkids made signs and counted the fish-less days. And somehow, even if you didnt even like GHB, you got caught up in the joy of a family that loved each other and had fun. Where did that country go? Where did all of the fun and joy and expressions of love and happiness go?

(56,103 posts)couldn't with the one in the OP.
From my earlier post:
Springsteen read it on his radio show back in October, 2020.

Uh-oh, now I'm quoting myself. That can't be a good sign ....

(16,476 posts)Hope I didn't step on your toes. My original intent wasn't to post it in the thread, but I changed my mind after someone posted that they weren't able to see the Instagram post.

(14,338 posts)And those absurd vanity portraits replacing works of national historic importance. Next thing you know Mr. Hollowman will hang one of those tacky oil paintings of dogs playing poker in a gold frame over the fireplace mantel.
To do that, he would have to like dogs. He clearly doesn't, nor any other animals.

No Kennedys playing touch football on the Cape. Whered that country go? Where did all the fun, the joy, and the expression of love and happiness go? We used to be the country that did the ice bucket challenge and raised millions for charity. We used to have a president who calmed and soothed the nation instead of dividing it. And a first lady who planted a garden instead of ripping one out. We are rudderless and joyless. We have lost the cultural aspects of society that make America great. We have lost our mojo, our fun, our happiness, our cheering on of others, the shared experience of humanity that makes it all worth it. The challenges and the triumphs that we shared and celebrated, the unique can-do spirit that America has always been known for. We are lost. Weve lost so much in so short a time. On November 3rd, vote them out.
This instagram poster apparently omitted the last sentence to make it appear the statement was more recent. Great statement, but not part of the current "conversation"

(16,476 posts)That article calls it Springsteen's writing, but I'm pretty sure it's by Elayne Griffin Baker.
USA Today and other articles call it "The Gray House", but it looks like she titled it "No joy in the White House".
