like back in the day featuring anti-trump headliners like Bruce Springsteen, Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Joan Jett, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, The Chicks, Bono and the group, and others...maybe as big as Woodstock.

(9,259 posts)who would be the big headliners (musical activists) these days?
I know of Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus? Is Billy Strings (I like him)? I wish there were some country groups/people like the Dixie Chicks, because that genre seems to be those that represent most of rural America.
Probably some rappers - do they mix with the pop/rock crowd?

(59,977 posts)I'm still trying to remember the Irish group...not Sting, but the orther group popular in the '90s and early ought tens.
If it is U2, they were more 1980's...

(9,259 posts)People like this make me feel much better about the music of today. I have to admit have long judged Country Music as being pro-GOP/pro-Trump. I was being too judgmental.

(5,127 posts)But there have always been strong progressive voices mixed in. And the majority of the "best" Country Music has generally come from those Progressive voices.

(844 posts)Also, what people do not understand is that the old musical protest paradigms such as LiveAid, Woodstock, Monterey Pop, etc couldn't even beld held today.
They also don't have the cultural significance because most modern music is fractured and uninspired...Most people got their news back then from a few sources and TV....Again, now "news" is fractured and balkanized and no central message for any protesting.

(166 posts)with some relevant comedy, dance, drama, storytelling in addition to music. I don't think artists' active response to these times is passe whatsoever. But it would be a hard thing to pull off financially and logistically. I could design it, but I couldn't begin to fund it.

(103,706 posts)who up until now have tolerated or supported Trump? Do you really think there would be millions that say "oh, I thought it was all going OK, but now that group I really like have said it isn't, well, I'll join a movement against Trump"? This flies in the face of the experience of the last 60 years.
And being against Trump is not enough anyway. We need the people to be against the Republicans who face re-election in 2026, and in 2028.
