It is a war crime no matter who is doing it

Israeli use of human shields in Gaza was systemic, soldiers and former detainees tell the AP

TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — The only times the Palestinian man wasn't bound or blindfolded, he said, was when he was used by Israeli soldiers as their human shield.

Dressed in army fatigues with a camera fixed to his forehead, Ayman Abu Hamadan was forced into houses in the Gaza Strip to make sure they were clear of bombs and gunmen, he said. When one unit finished with him, he was passed to the next.

“They beat me and told me: ‘You have no other option; do this or we'll kill you,'" the 36-year-old told The Associated Press, describing the 2 1/2 weeks he was held last summer by the Israeli military in northern Gaza.

If you condemn Hamas for this sort of atrocity, then you must condemn Israel for doing the same.

The phrase should be look what Netanyahu's government is doing to Gaza.

Many Americans despise Trump, but we're not able to stop the evil things he does. I'm sure many Israelis feel the same about Netanyahu.

Back to the nakba. Netanyahu's regime is simply the ultimate result of nearly eighty years of hatred and violence.

But Netanyahu and his government commit war crimes with impunity because Western leaders, and even most Arab leaders, refuse to do anything about them. Severe economic sanctions might help change the minds of the right-wing extremists in Israel if they’re denied access to global markets.

And the United States is going up in smoke.

What is that they say on airplanes, "put on your own mask before helping your child".

Given the complicity of the pro-Hamas faction (or look-alikes with assist from the real ones) in the current destruction of the U.S. - not to mention Hamas turning the bad status quo in Israel/Gaza to horrific with their brutal actions to innocents on October 7th - I am sorry, but I am working on putting on my own mask. And anyone in the US who isn't prioritizing salvaging the US to have a future role as a good actor in world conflicts, I think you need to check your priorities. If you want to prioritize the Middle East, maybe call on Hamas to return all living and dead hostages, without condition, and turn over the rapists and torturers of Oct. 7th. Of course that will never happen.

Keep in mind that the people in the Middle East have been fighting for generations, with brutality on all sides. A corrupt US run by a twisted, cruel dictator, is not likely to have any significant role in making the situation better. But it could make it even worse than it already is.

Before you slam me - I do care about the innocents being brutalized. Just don't see how talking about that here is going to do a damn thing to actually help, as long as our own politics are so fucked up, and the people making policy in this country now are not even remotely decent or likely to support anything helpful in that region.

First of all, what "pro Hamas faction" is participating in the destruction of the US? Last time I looked it was the radical right wing in this country that was destroying this country, and they all overwhelmingly support Israel and Netanyahu.

Second, as far as prioritizing the US or the Middle East, hey, people can walk and chew gum at the same time. Turning one's vision solely inward towards our own problems seems shortsighted and cruel, given that you would ignoring the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people.

Finally, talking about these matters brings awareness of them to the public, and a lot of the general public doesn't know these actions are going on. The use of human shields by the Israeli army isn't going to be covered by the MSM, not to any significant degree, so why not get the word out.
