(114 posts)Shes smart and while legally conservative, doesnt seem to be an ideologue or partisan, and seemingly tries to be fair. Thats the most one can hope for when a Justice is appointed by a Republican President.

(9,672 posts)Thank you so much for this post.
I was just speaking with my Sis and we both feel there's hope for her. My thought is that she would want to enforce/abide by the rule of law.
I'm a spiritual person (not religious) and I pray and meditate for both her and Roberts.

(52,387 posts)doesn't appreciate or like males telling her how to interpret law. I often got the right answer in class, only to hear male catcalls in derision. I stood up to patronizing male law professors -- and still graduated.

(66,647 posts)To me, the right to have autonomy over one's body is of paramount importance. I don't like that argument and I don't like the compromises that go along with it.

(5,972 posts)Except O'Connor was prochoice. Her opinion in Casey did open the door for a lot of the bullshit laws that came after, like a 3 day waiting period, ultrasound requirements, etc. But she didn't overturn Roe.
On other issues she was as bad as Fat Tony. And she was part of the 5 justices that stopped the vote count in Florida.
I would say Barrett will occasionally side with the liberal justices. But expecting anything from her is fool's gold.

(184 posts)ACB does not want to be known as a "Trump judge." I think she's disgusted with him and will separate more over time.

(10,729 posts)I listen to SC oral arguments a lot because they're usually pretty interesting. Barrett really impressed me in Haaland v. Brackeen, the case that upheld the Indian Child Welfare Act which is meant to protect children's Native American tribal attachments in custody cases.
She really picked apart the attorneys during oral arguments in a thorough and nuanced way.
Not saying she's the most amazing justice ever - still conservative - but she's not a slouch.
