How Did We Get Here?
Aside from Rush Limbaugh and the rise of FOX, the following 3 individuals will be remembered as the men who broke American Democracy:
1. Mitch McConnell
A. He denied President Obama his constitutional right to put Merrick Garland on the Supreme Court because with 7 months to go, it was too close to the 2016 election, yet rammed through Amy Coney Barrett just 6 weeks before the 2020 election.
B. Twice he could have in instructed the GOP majority to convict Trump at his impeachment trials, but let him off the hook.
2. John Roberts
A. His lead on the Citizens United ruling in 2010 sold our democracy to the uber rich.
B. His giving Trump immunity from prosecution for short term political gain gave a rebirth to the monster the Republicans created.
3. Merrick Garland
A. For 2 years he did nothing in terms of prosecuting Trump, yet was forced to by the January 6th Committee.
B. When he could have released documents and reports before the election that showed what Trump did, he remained an institutionalist for a man that believes he alone is bigger than the Constitution.
