Trump hinted at his overall plan this evening when he said that in 1913

"for some unknown reason" they instituted the income tax. IMO, he's planning to end income tax and replace it with these tariffs, which are essentially a VAT tax.

He has actually said on occasion that he would get rid of income taxes.

many elderly people and single people with children - still have to pay FICA and various sales taxes, including the federal gasoline tax, and state income tax. Sales taxes are regressive.

in ascribing coherent motivation ... (rather than just the vicious 'tear it all down' that seems to feature rather prominently .. )

( the idea that the compensation people receive for their labor - is not considered income, or taxed .... doesn't sit very well in this corner. sure looks different than that on most of the 1040s I've ever run across. )

*Legally*, you're right of course.

But these clowns could just fire everyone at the irs. Hell, they'll destroy everyone's returns.

Or maybe they'll only do that for donors....

This wartime nonsense needs to be challenged. And these idiotic tariffs squashed. And if the GOP had any sense at all, they'd jettison Trump along with his pudgy bearded bully with the eyeliner.

value add tax every places along the production chain add their piece of the pie, the consumer in the end pays for it all. This is a consumption tax its more likely to cause more pay for those that can least afford it. The rich don't but much small ticket stuff. A trip to Walmart means paying more, a trip to buy a chair means you pay more, buying small appliances, means more.....etc It isn't a substitute for a sales tax, you'll still have that too.

by eliminating income tax the rich will get to keep more of their money as they are not likely avid weekly consumers. They spend less and will keep more.
